Research for our opening sequence

Just a collection of links, ideas and pictures so that we have a good understanding of the codes and conventions of horror films.
This is a clip from the film the Omen, it is collection of different scenes togetther in a montage. I can see that having no sound then a loud noise can be effective then a full soundtarck overall.
From looking at several home made horror films on youtube, i have learnt that the soundtrack is one of the most important things in ensuring that a film is scary.
We want our opening sequence to start of slow then pick up momentum at the very end, where then the title will be presented on the screen.

The Strangers: Opening sequence
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWp14gtZ-u0

The strangers opening sequence starts with narrator telling the audience its true story then it follows onto a montage of clips of the country side and other locations, it then goes to a black screen and you hear a phone call between A 911 officer and a young girl, explaining what has happened, while this convo is in process you see glimpses of whats about to come in the film, with shots of blood, knifes and windows creating a scary atmosphere.
After watching the sequence we have decided to use a Police phone call in our opening sequence as we feel it would be effective in creating our scary atmosphere.
The strangers follow typical horror movie conventions, with the scary subtle music.

Phone Call?
We think the call should be cut off or interrupted by the person following the girl after this it will cut staright to the opening where the girl is saying goodbye to her friends in school.
